Identity: do you know yours?
An enthusiastic group of students from ethnic minority groups organised a music and dance event on the Bury St Edmunds campus of West Suffolk College around the theme of Identity: do you know yours? in June.
Half a dozen young men on different courses across the College – Sport, Engineering IT and Business – initiated the project. Five bands of Music students entertained the crowd and the organisers performed hip hop and rap music. A group of first and second year dancers from the Performing Arts course also performed five dances.
Oluwole Akinwumi said: “We are doing this in order to raise awareness of equality and diversity within the college.”
Ndala Tolosi said: “The message we want to get across is that everyone is equal and everyone has a voice.”
College Principal Dr Ann Williams said: “I am really pleased that a group of our students have decided that this event would form a launch for raising the profile of equality and diversity within the College. I wish them the very best for a successful event and the launch of a new student voice.”
